Mailis Reps, the Minister of Education and Research of Estonia is from today until Thursday in the United States of America with the prime minister Jüri Ratas and business delegation.
Strengthening cooperation in research and innovation as well as learning about the United States of America`s models of research cooperation are the main aims of the visit, said minister Mailis Reps. „The relations between researchers and private sector in the U.S.` provide good example of cooperation. I believe that learning from the best examples help Estonia to develop its next innovation strategy in a way that Estonia`s research stays in the top of the world,“ said Reps.
Today, on the 28th October, Reps meets Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the UN to discuss Estonia`s non-permanent membership of the Security Council. In the afternoon, Reps participates in the roundtable on smart City topics in the Urban Tech Hub in New York City. In the evening, Reps delivers a speech on innovation policy at the University of Albany, meets the management of the university to explore cooperation possibilities and Tallinn University of Technology will sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Albany.
On Tuesday, the 29th October, minister Reps visits the New York Estonian School. Reps will meet Sebastian Thrun, the former vice president of Google and visits Google Office in New York.
On Wednesday, the 30th October, Reps will be in Washington to meet, among others, the representatives of the International Monetary Fund and the National Science Foundation The meeting with Marcia McNutt, the president of the National Academy of Science will focus on developing Estonia-U.S. research cooperation and exchanging best practices.
Visit will be concluded by meetings with Estonian community in Washington and representatives of Jewish organisations in the U.S.
Minister Reps is accompanied by Indrek Reimand, the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry.
