Joke van der Leeuw-Roord, historian and Founding President, Special Advisor and former Executive Director of EUROCLIO, the European Association of History Educators and Former Secretary General of Lifelong Learning Platform in Brussels. Currently, she is a Board member of Europeana, the European digital cultural and scientific heritage collection. She worked as a history teacher, teacher trainer and history advisor in the Netherlands until 1993 and was responsible for the design and implementation of competence-based national examinations for history and citizenship education. She founded EUROCLIO in 1992, and became an international expert on innovative and trans-national history, heritage and citizenship. She has initiated and coordinated a multitude of national and trans-national capacity building projects for history, heritage and citizenship professionals in most European countries, including Georgia, Russia, South Korea and Turkey. She has worked as consultant for the UNESCO, OSCE, Council of Europe, the European Union and International Alert and published widely on questions related to responsible and innovative approaches to inclusive history, citizenship and heritage.
