Teachers
At the beginning of 2008 there were 8,592 preschool teachers in Estonia, whose average age was 45 and 0.3% of whom were male.
A total of 14,682 teachers are working in general education schools in the 2008/2009 academic year and their average age is a little over 45 and 14% of them are men.
Currently, 2,096 teachers are working in vocational educational institutions, of whom 34% are men and 66% are women. The average age of vocational education teachers is higher: slightly under 48. Approximately 2,500 teachers are working in hobby schools.
The preparation of the new teacher education strategy also resulted in an overview of Estonia’s teachers.
